Warriors – Fist Up Short

The Golden State Warriors are renown for their offensive fire-power, which has been predicated on outstanding ball movement.

They have been able to find an ideal balance between native read and react options and well organised half-court sets.

One of the plays that have featured over the past 4 or 5 years is ‘Fist Up Short’.

It can be a very effective option against defences that ‘hard show’ or have high rules for on-ball screening situations.

The play usually starts with a 1 dribbling to the wing. 4 sets a screen for 2 to receive the ball at the top of the key.
2 drives off 5 and 5 rolls to the basket. 4 steps up the lane up, looking for a pass from 2. 4 then looks for the pass to 5.
4 cuts to the opposite block (low post) position. This is sometimes referred to as short the floor. 5 runs to an on-ball screen for 2.
